USF Softball Plays Double Header to Open the USF Invite Tournament

The ladies take the field for a double header in the first day of the USF Invite tournament.  The Bulls, 20-4 on the year and ranked 24th in the country, take on two opponents as they kick off this big home tournament.  USF faces Fairfield in the first game of the double header (game slated for 2:15PM) and will face Northwestern in the second game (4:30PM).

Fairfield is 9-5 on the year and will be looking for a big win on the road in the first game of the tournament.

The Stags are led by freshman outfielder Sammy Ruffolo who is hitting .379 with 2 home runs and 11 RBIs. Sophomore utility player Rae Ball who is batting .387 with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs. Sophomore outfielder Mikayla Shumate is batting .297 with 4 RBIs.  Sophomore short stop Lauren Liseth is batting .300 with 1 home run and has 14 RBIs on the year. Ball is also their ace pitcher who is on the year who is 3-2 on the season with a 3.53 ERA.

The Bulls will face Northwestern after they finish their game with Fairfield (game slated for 4:30PM).  The Wildcats enter the game with a record of 7-11 on the year.

Northwestern is led by junior infielder Emily Allard (6-0) who is batting .423 with 11 RBIs on the year and has 11 steals. Sophomore infielder Marisa Bast (5-7) is batting .389 with 5 home runs and 18 RBIs.  Junior outfielder Kristin Scharkey (5-7) is batting .298 with 3 RBIs.  Senior infielder Adrienne Monka (5-8) is batting .289 with 4 home runs and 12 RBIs on the year.  Junior RHP Meghan Lamberth is 3-4 on the year with 1 save while working 54.2 innings, allowing 58 hits, 37 walks, and has struck out 28.  Freshman RHP Amy Letourneau (5-11) is 3-6 while working 36.1 innings, allowing 40 hits, 37 walks, and has struck out 38.

The Bulls are playing well right now, especially with the unreal starting pitching they are getting from their aces.  If the offense can continue to get on base and find its power swing, the Bulls will make some noise in these two games.
