USF Softball Sweeps Double Header

The Bulls were back in action today in another key double header in Clearwater as part of the USF Invitational tournament. The Bulls won the first game of the double header 5 to 1 over Northern Illinois on the power of the home run and the arm of Sara Nevins.

The offense showed their power swing in this game. Jessica Mouse had a two run home run in the game, going 1 for 3 on the day. Kenshyra Jackson went 1 for 3 with a home run, Stephanie Medina went 1 for 3 with a home run, and Kourtney Salvarola went 2 for 3 with a blast as well, all three coming back-to-back-to-back. Janine Richardson was also 2 for 3 on the day. Sara Nevins continued her dominating pitching, working the entire 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 run, walking 1 and struck out 11 batters.

The Bulls had outstanding pitching in the second game as they beat Kent State 1 to 0, taking both games on the day and improving to 23-5 on the year. Sam Greiner got the start, working 5 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and struck out 4. Sara Nevins went 2 innings in relief, walking 2 and struck out 5. The offense was in a battle during this game, but got the hits when they needed them. Gina Kafalas went 1 for 2 with an RBI, Stephanie Medina went 1 for 2, and Laura Fountain went 1 for 2 scoring the only run of the game.

The Bulls are playing well, now at 23-5 on the year, but have a lot of work to do. They return home to face the 21st ranked Seminoles on Sunday afternoon at 1:30PM. This will be another key game for the Bulls as they try to get another momentum building win as Big East play approaches.
