USF Softball Takes on Florida

The 22nd ranked USF Bulls, 29-5 (3-0) on the year, get a mid-week game against the 4th ranked Gators who are 29-2 (10-1) on the year and are 13-0 at home, posing a huge challenge for the Bulls as they hit the road.  The Bulls pushed the Gators this year in Tampa, falling 2 to 3.  USF has been on a roll recently, but will need to be at their best in this game (game starts at 6PM).

The Gators are led by junior catcher Brittany Schutte (5-10) who is batting .477 this year with 3 home runs and has driven in 23 runs.  Senior centerfielder Michelle Moultrie (5-4) is batting .452 with 8 home runs, 21 RBIs, and has 17 steals on the season out of 19 attempts.  Sophomore utility player Sami Fagan (5-10) is batting .386 with 11 RBIs on the season.  Freshman 1B Lauren Haeger (5-11) is batting .405 with 6 home runs and has 32 RBIs on the year, leading a really powerful lineup that hits for power.  Sara Nevins will need to be at her best in this game if the Bulls want to pull the upset.

The Gator pitching staff is led by sophomore RHP Hannah Rogers (5-10) who is 16-1 on the year with a .71 ERA.  She has worked 108.1 innings, allowing 67 hits, 24 walks, and has struck out 105 batters.  Haeger is also a strong pitcher for the lady Gators.  She is 9-1 (1.43 ERA) while tossing 58.2 innings, allowing 41 hits, 32 walks, and has struck out 65 batters.

This is going to be a tough game for the ladies and will be a huge bench mark for the ladies as they continue this great season.  If the Bulls can get their strong pitching and continue to swing the bats for power, they could pull the huge upset win on the road.  They will next play at Pitt over the weekend as they return to Big East action.
