USF Softball Takes on FSU

The USF Bulls, 23-5 on the year and fresh off of their double header sweep yesterday, are back home to take on the 21st ranked Seminoles of FSU.  The Noles are 23-3 on the year and will pose a real challenge for the ladies as they look to beat another ranked opponent early in the season.

FSU is led by sophomore outfielder Courtney Senas who is batting .329 with 10 RBIs and 11 steals on the season.  Junior outfielder Amber Bryant is batting .313 with 1 RBI.  Senior 2B Mallory Border is batting .283 with 1 home run and 14 RBIs.  Junior infielder Brianna Hamilton is batting .258 with 5 home runs and has 14 RBIs on the year.  They have a balanced lineup with power up and down the order, making it hard on opposing pitching staffs.  Nevins will have to be at her best and keep pitches low in the strike zone.

The Noles have dynamic pitchers as well that will challenge the USF hitters.  Junior RHP Monica Perry is 10-2 on the year after tossing 78 innings, allowing just 37 hits, 16 walks, and has struck out 98 batters.  Freshman RHP Lacey Waldrop is 10-1 with 69.2 innings pitched, allowing 33 hits, 17 walks, and has struck out 56 batters.

With the pitching staffs that both teams have, expect a very low scoring game in this one.  The Bulls will have to get runners on base and will have to manufacture runs against their staff and Nevins and the Bulls pitchers have to keep the ball low and not allow the Noles to get an early lead.
