The USF season continues as the ladies beat FIU 77 to 61 to advance to the third round of the WNIT (will face the winner of the JMU vs. Wake Forest game, which is scheduled for tomorrow). The Bulls were in for an early fight in this one, but built a 20-point lead in the second half and held on after a strong Panther charge at the end to get within 9 points.
Tahira Johnson had 5 points and 3 rebounds. Jasmine Wynne had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Kaneisha Saunders had 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. Tiffany Conner had 8 points and 5 rebounds before she fouled out. Inga Orekhova had 10 points (just 2 for 13 from 3-point range) with 3 steals. Andrell Smith had 15 points and 6 rebounds off the bench. Akila McDonald had 8 points and 12 huge rebounds in the game as well.
This was another great game by the ladies as they advance to the third round and improve to 19-15 on the season. Coach Fernandez has never lost to FIU in his career, now 6-0 all time against them. The Bulls will have to watch and wait for the next opponent.
