USF Softball Takes on Rutgers as they Open Big East Play

The USF Bulls, , begin the start of the Big East portion of the schedule. They will start conference play with Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights enter the series at 10-12 on the year (this is their first Big East games as well). The Bulls did not play RU last year because of weather that canceled both games, so the two sides will be looking to get started in this series.

The Bulls will play Rutgers today in a double header, first game at 2PM and the second at 4PM. They will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1PM.

RU is led by senior infielder Brittany Lindley who is batting .429 with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs, and has 8 steals on the year. Senior outfielder Lindsey Curran is batting .303 with one home run and has 4 RBIs. Sophomore outfielder Loren Williams is batting .289 with 9 RBIs. Junior middle infielder Jennifer Harabedian is batting with .267 with 1 home run and has 7 RBIs. They are not an overpowering batting order, but have batters that can get on base and move runners from top to bottom, posing a threat to the USF pitching staff.

The RU pitching staff is led by freshman RHP Alyssa Landrith who is 6-3 on the year (3.59 ERA) while working 66.1 innings, allowing 59 hits, 17 walks, and has struck out 37 batters. Sophomore RHP Megan Williams is 1-2 (3.63 ERA) while working 15.1 innings, allowing 20 hits, 4 walks, and has struck out 7, giving them two strong arms that can challenge the USF batting order.

This will be a key series for the Bulls as they look to start conference play off on a strong note. They have had a great first half of the year, but now the real work begins with the conference portion now upon them.
