The USF Bulls took on Rutgers in the first series of the Big East schedule in a big double header as they got off to a strong start, taking both games and improved to 28-5 (2-0) and marked the best start in program history.
USF won game one 9 to 0 in 5 innings, showing the strength of their pitching staff and the power of their bats. Ashli Goff went 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored. Kourtney Salvarola went 1 for 2. Kenshyra Jackson went 1 for 2 with a two-run home run to open up the scoring attack. Stephanie Medina went 1 for 2 with a huge grand slam that put USF over the edge. Sara Nevins worked 4 great innings, allowing just 2 hits and struck out 5 batters. Sam Greiner worked the final inning in her first Big East action as Coach Eriksen worked in 19 players as they Bulls got a strong win in their first conference game.
The bats came to life in game two as the Bulls won 11 to 0 in 5 innings. Stormi Grzybek went 1 for 1 with a pinch hit grand slam. Stephanie Medina went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Kenshyra Jackson went 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs. Gina Kafalas went 1 for 1 with a run scored and stole 2 bases. D'Anna Devine went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and drove in a run. Sara Nevins once again dominated, working 4 innings, allowing just 2 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. Sam Greiner worked the 5th, allowing just 1 hit and struck out 2 as the Bulls capped a huge day.
USF will look to sweep the series tomorrow against RU with a 1PM start time. They will then travel to Gainesville for a mid-week game against the Gators before getting back to Big East play.
