The USF Bulls continued their impressive start to the season, sweeping the double header today at home against Penn State and Virginia Tech.
The ladies won game one 7 to 0 over Penn State thanks to the arms of Sara Nevins and the bat of Stephanie Medina. Nevins went 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, and struck out 8 as she dominated the game. Sam Greiner worked the 7th, allowing one hit and struck out one. Stephanie Medina went 2 for 2 with two 3-run home runs (6 RBIs on the day) her first two long balls of the season. Ashli Goff went 2 for 3 with a steal and Janine Richardson went 3 for 3 with an RBI as well.
The Bulls got into a pitching duel against Virginia Tech, but a home run by Kenshyra Jackson and Janine Jackson gave the Bulls the 2 to 0 win and helped them improve to 17-4 on the season. Lindsey Richardson went 1.2 innings, walking 1 and struck out 3. Sam Greiner went 2.1 innings, striking out two and Sara Nevins went 3 innings, walking one and striking out 3 as all three pitchers helped throw a combined no-hitter against the Hokies, incredible efforts by everyone out there.
USF is on a roll now, but has a lot of work to do this weekend. They face Central Connecticut at 4:15 tomorrow followed by an exhibition game against the Netherlands at 6:30. The Bulls beat the national team last year 2 to 1 and will look to use it as another learning experience in the start of the season.
