USF WBB Hangs on to Beat Pitt in Opening Round of Big East Tournament

That was a close one! The USF Bulls, facing the 16th seed Panthers, the same team that had lost all 16 Big East games, rallied from down 21 points at the start of the second half and just missed upsetting USF as the Bulls hang on to win 60 to 59. The Bulls went cold in the second half as the Panthers got on a roll, forcing the Bulls to hang on as the last shot rimmed out of the bucket (overall record now 17-14 and 9-8 in league play).

Inga Orekhova had a huge game, scoring 25 points (5 of 12 from 3-point range) and added 2 rebounds. Orekhova had her first 21 points in the first half as the entire team went ice cold from the field. Jasmine Wynne had 7 points and 6 rebounds. Andrell Smith had 16 points and 7 rebounds. Caitlin Rowe had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Sasha Bernard had 4 points and 4 assists, Kaneisha Saunders had 2 points and 2 rebounds, and Tahira Johnson had 6 rebounds.

This was a close game, much closer than anyone thought it would be, but a win is a win come tournament time. The Bulls will now face DePaul tomorrow at 2PM as they look to advance even further in the conference tournament.
