Bulls Bits

There is never a day off for athletics.
A lot has been happening around athletics these days, let's get caught  up on some of the stories that are going around.

The USF women's soccer team captured their first Big East title in program history with a one stroke win over Notre Dame at the Reunion Resort and Club in Orlando.  Christina Miller fired a 73 in the final round to help the Bulls come from one stroke back to win the title.

The USF men's and women's tennis teams both captured second place in their Big East conference championships. The ladies, who went to the tournament for the 5th time in the past 6 years, will have a chance to head to the NCAA tournament later.

The USF men's soccer team landed a star midfielder out of Tyler College, the same college as Dom Dwyer (per Auman).  Coach Kiefer was able to ink German born midfielder Samuel "Samu" Hosseini.  The 6-1 midfielder was named All-American this past year and will join the Bulls as they look to get even further in the NCAA tournament this year.  The Bulls recently signed Edwin Moalosi, a top scoring forward out of Lincoln College as well to this year's team.

Prep freshman guard Sam Cassell Jr., a big USF target, re-committed to Maryland over the weekend.  USF had been recruiting him and recently brought him in for a visit, but he decided to go with his original commitment.  Coach Heath has two scholarships available with the transfer of guard Blake Nash (looking at several schools out west) that he could use this year or wait till next season.  USF is still in the mix for FAU forward Kore White.

Coach Fernandez landed his first recruit for the 2013 class (per Auman).  5-9 guard Tamara Taylor out of Gulf Coast Community College has committed for the USF WBB team.  Taylor averaged 11.3 points per game for Gulf Coast Community College, the same college as Andrell and Andrea Smith came from two years ago and Caitlin Rowe from last year.  Taylor is a sharp shooter with 3-point range that will be part of a huge 2013 recruiting class.  Fernandez will lose 7 seniors after this season, so he will need to recruit and bring in a strong class for the future.
