Final Spring Game Scrimmage Thoughts

Andre Davis continued his strong spring yesterday (Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
The Bulls took the field for the last time this spring as they wrapped up their spring practices under the lights of Raymond James Stadium (rain decided to hold off today for the game).

The offense, who dominated in the first matchup, was held in check as the defense rebounded and had a strong performance.  They shut down B.J. Daniels and had several sacks and big plays, regrouping after a bad week before.  Giddins had stated they needed to cut down on mistakes and they did that, but there is still room to grow.  The unit had several dropped interceptions and could have had bigger numbers, areas they will work to improve on.  Josh Brown had a nice interception and George Baker continued to play well as the unit continues to look for consistent depth in the secondary.

While the defense had the better day, the offense still put up a few scores and a few players stepped up.  Andre Davis was a favorite go-to target during the game, as he looks to have a break out season.  Griffin and Dunkley both played well during the game, showing how deep this unit will be.  Lindsey Lamar was impressive in the open as the team continues to look for that second running back.  Marcus Shaw, who has added weight, looked strong along with a few glimpses of Bradley Battles and Willie Davis.  The back-up quarterback position race didn't change at all.  Bobby Eveld was 12 for 19 for 136 yards and Matt Floyd was 14 for 28 for 174 yards, so it will take the fall camp to figure out the back-up.

The overall picture is the defense is not as bad as it looked the last time out.  Mistakes were cut down, penalties were lower, and the biggest thing to note, no one got injured.  After this, the spring is over and now the long wait for the fall begins.
