USF Baseball Gets Win in Game 3 of the Series

The Bulls took the field against the Louisville Cardinals yesterday as they tried to sneak in a complete game, but they were only able to get 7 innings in before the game was postponed till today, but maybe the rain delay was good.  Yesterday, the Bulls were down 1 to 12 before it was called.

Joey Lovecchio worked just 2.2 innings, allowing 8 hits, 8 runs, and walked 2 batters.  Janick Serrallonga worked 3.1 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and struck out 2.  Devin Smith relieved him, working 1 inning, allowing 2 hits 3 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 1.  It wasn't a great day.  The offense got just 1 run on the board as well.  Todd Brazeal went 1 for 2 and Zac Gilcrease drove him home on a sac fly, but there was nothing more after that.

After the rain delay, the team returned to a drier field to wrap up the second game.  Chad Taylor came into the game to conserve the bullpen and worked 2 scoreless innings, but the offense had no answer and being down 1 to 12, this game was done.

The Bulls dropped to 26-14 (10-4) after this game, but looked to rebound in the third and final game of the series.

Derrick Stultz took the mound for the third game of the series, winning 5 to 1, improving their overall record to 27-14 (11-4) on the year.

Stultz was at his best, working 8 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and struck out 2.  Nick Gonzalez came into the game for the 9th inning, striking out the side to secure the win.  After getting just one run in the last game, the Bulls bats came to life.  Alex Mendez went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored a run.  Luis Llerena went 1 for 4 with a run scored and rove in a run.  Kyle Teaf went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored.  Todd Brazeal went 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Jimmy Fall a went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

The Bulls are tied for the lead in the Big East schedule and will hit the road on Tuesday night for a big game on the road against the 1st ranked Gator in Gainesville (game starts at 7PM).
