Bulls Bits

Senior linebacker Sam Barrington had some interesting comments on the USF Magazine Show this morning on 1010 CBS Sports Radio.

Here are a few notes that are floating around about USF, let's get caught up on the latest.

Defensive tackle Cory Grissom, who is having surgery on the fractured fibula near his right ankle, is expected to be out for 3 months, meaning he could return to the team this fall and still play.  This is great news for the defensive line that moved Elkino Watson into his spot during practice the other day.  The unit is a little thin at experience, so having Pork Chop back this year will be huge.  If he can't return, he can take a medical redshirt and return for 2013.

Defensive end Anthony Hill underwent surgery on his ACL that he tore during the Green and Gold game on campus last week.  He will miss the 2012 season, but has a medical redshirt he can use and will return to the team in 2013.

Freshman receiver Alex Mut, who missed last season while recovering from ACL surgery (took the grey shirt) was on crutches at practice the other day (reported by Greg Auman).  Mut will undergo a minor surgery on that same knee, but is expected to be fully healthy for the start of the fall camp this season.

One more interesting note from the USF Magazine Show on 1010 AM (runs 6AM to 7AM for those up early enough for that) came from senior linebacker Sam Barrington.  Barrington mentioned the 5-7 finish last season was disappointing to the team and its a motivator for them this season.  He stated that there is a team of angry players that want to go out with a Big East title and will work even harder than ever to reach that goal this season.  He also mentioned the team could wear game jerseys during the scrimmage on Saturday night.  It is nothing official, but there is always a chance Coach Holtz could let them do that, giving them something extra for the scrimmage.
