The USF Bulls, 33-5 (6-0), are back home as they host St. John's University for another key series in Big East play.
SJU is 14-22 on the season, 2-3 in conference play. The Red Storm are also 2-5 away from New York, meaning homefield will play a key role for the Bulls as they look to notch a few more conference wins as they continue their impressive season.
The ladies will play a double header today, first game at 2PM followed by another at 4PM. They will wrap up the series on Saturday at 1PM (weather could be a factor in the double header today).
SJU is led by sophomore outfielder Jackie Reed (5-4) who is batting .352 with 3 home runs and has 23 RBIs on the year. Senior outfielder Kristi Cady (5-7) is batting .355 with 5 home runs (10 doubles) and has 18 RBIs so far. Junior short stop Chrissy Montez (5-9) is batting .358 with 5 home runs and 20 RBIs. Senior catcher/3B Karee Cox (5-11) is batting .319 with 8 home runs and has 24 RBIs to add another power bat to their batting lineup. Senior short stop/3B Julia Sanchez (5-3) is batting .243 with 8 RBIs to round out their batting order. SJU has some power and with multiple hitters with the ability to hit the long ball, Sara Nevins and the pitching staff will have to be at their best.
The SJU pitching staff is led by sophomore RHP Ashley Beza (5-5). she is 7-13 on the year while throwing 131.2 innings, allowing 131 hits, 45 walks, and has struck out 102 batters so far. Freshman RHP Fran Carrullo (5-6) is 4-5 on the year while pitching 57 innings, allowing 72 hits, 30 walks and has struck out 37 batters. The USF hitters led by Kenshyra Jackson and Stephanie Medina should be able to get on base and drive in a few runs during this series.
The Bulls should take this series (sweeping would be great as well). Sara Nevins is on another planet with her pitching right now and the USF offense is simply relentless with their base running and constant pressure, so they should have a very productive series.
