USF Sweeps Double Header Against SJU

The USF Bulls returned home for a 3-game series against St. John's University as they continue conference play.  The two teams squared off in a key double header as USF looked to continue its impressive record.

The Bulls took game one 5 to 2.  Sara Nevins worked 6.1 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and struck out 11.  She was pulled in the 7th after giving up back-to-back hits, replaced by Sam Greiner.  Greiner got two outs, but gave up two hits (which led to the runs).  Nevins returned to strike out the last batter to end the game.

Gina Kafalas went 1 for 4 with a run scored.  Laura Fountain went 2 for 3. Stephanie Medina went 3 for 3 with an RBI.  Kourtney Salvarola went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Jessica Mouse went 1 for 3 with an RBI as well to secure the win for USF.

The Bulls continued to roll in game two, winning 9 to 1 in the second game of the double header.  Sam Greiner worked 4 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, and struck out 1.  Sara Nevins worked the last 2 innings, striking out 5 batters.

The offense heated up again.  Sydney Dinelli went 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs in a pinch hitting at-bat.  Janine Richardson went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.  Jessica Mouse went 2 for 3 with a home run and drove in two runs as the Bulls improved their record to 35-5 (8-0) on the year.

An important note is the status of SJU outfielder Summer Comstock who appeared to severely injure her leg in the 6th inning in a collision with a teammate going for a fly ball.  Her leg was mobilized by paramedics and was taken off the field at the end of the game.  We wish her the best.

The Bulls will look to complete the sweep tomorrow when they take the field at 1PM.
