USF Softball Takes on Hofstra in the Super Regional NCAA Tournament

The Bulls, now 48-11 on the season and 3-0 out of the Gainesville regional, return home to take on Hostra in the super regional.  Hofstra, 41-13 on the season, started the year at 0-9 on the season and are on a roll right now as they come to Tampa.  Let's see what USF is facing in this round of 16 (this is a best of 3-game series). The game tonight starts at 7PM.

Hofstra is led by junior designated player and star pitcher Olivia Galati (5-5).  She is batting .361 with 4 home runs, 11 doubles, and has 37 RBIs on the year.  Junior outfielder Rachel Senatore (5-8) is batting .359 with 22 RBIs and leads the team with 10 steals on the season.  Junior utility player Becca Bigler (5-7) is batting .325 with 11 home runs and has 33 RBIs on the year (huge power threat in their batting order).  Junior outfielder Tessa Ziemba (5-5) is batting .321 with 11 home runs and has 44 RBIs on the season.  Senior utility player Krista Thorn (5-9) is batting .305 with 8 home runs and has 36 RBIs on the season.  Hofrsta has a ton of power in their batting order that can surprise the USF pitching staff.  This will be a fun match-up to watch.

The Hofstra pitching staff is led by Olivia Gatali who is 33-5 on the season (just a .91 ERA) while working 253.2 innings, allowing 143 hits, 24 walks, and has struck out 363 batters (yeah, had to double check that number as well).  Senior RHP Erin Wade (5-5) is 8-8 on the year (2.80 ERA) with 100 innings worked, allowing 125 hits, 27 walks, and has struck out 70 batters.  Gatali has insane numbers posing a huge threat to the USF batters.  The Bulls have been clutch in the postseason and will need to continue the key hitting against a tough pitching staff.

This is a huge series for the Bulls.  It is only the second time in program history they have made it to the super regional (first time hosting) and are expecting a record crowd (around 1500 for the game on Friday night).  The team needs to maintain their focus, feed off the energy of the crowd and come out swinging.
