Busy Night for USF: Men's Soccer Wins, Volleyball Goes Down and Ladies Soccer Dominates

It was a busy night for USF athletics with 3 teams in action, two on campus and one in Indiana, there was a lot to follow and a lot to like from big time players as the fall athletic season begins.

The 5th ranked men's soccer team took to the field in front of a national audience and over 3000 fans at Corbett in their first game of the season.  The Bulls came out attacking, but had nothing to show for it after a busy first half.  Just a minute into the second half, Michigan struck as Dylan Mencia notched a goal after an assist from Luke Coulson.  The Bulls answered themselves in the 65th minute on a goal by Brenton Griffiths, assisted by Leston Paul and Mario Mesen.  Just a minute later, after a yellow card and a missed penalty kick by Leston Paul, Ben Sweat, man at the right time at the right moment, put a goal in to give the Bulls a 2 to 1 lead and a score they would hold onto for the first win of the season.  They will next face SMU in Tulsa, Oklahoma next Friday at 4PM in the Hurricane Classic.

The USF volleyball team, the first game under the Courtney Draper regime, lost 0 to 3 to Wisconsin (17 to 25, 23 to 25, and 22 to 25) beginning the year at 0-1.

Andrea Rodriguez Gomez had 5 kills and 2 digs in the effort.  Caitlyn Breen had 3 kills and 2 digs.  J'beria Davis had 7 kills and 8 digs in a strong first game.  Erin Fairs had 7 kills.  Wylie Devlin had 16 assists and 7 digs.  Valerie El Houssine had 11 kills and 12 digs as she begins are highly anticipated sophomore season.  Claudia Cabrera had 14 digs and Kayla Walton had 3 kills in the game.   The Bulls will try to rebound tomorrow against Creighton, game begins at 1PM.

I said it in the exhibition games, Passariello is locked in and now has 3 goals in 3 games, please believe me!
The women's soccer team took to the road for the first time of the season and took care of business beating Indiana 3 to 0 to improve 2-1-0 on the season.  The Bulls dominated the attack during the game and pressured the Hoosiers from start to finish.

The Bulls jumped out to a 1 to 0 lead in the 31st minute on a Sharla Passariello goal assisted by Biance Norman.  The Bulls struck in the 60th minute on another goal by Passariello to take a 2 to 0 lead (Passariello took the shot 25 yards outside the box and put it away in the net).  Ana Paoloa Lopez on an assist from Demi Stokes got the Bulls ahead 3 to 0 and Christiane Endler had 3 saves on the night as the ladies dominated from start to finish.

The ladies will next face Georgia next Friday in the UCF tournament in Orlando at 5PM.
