USF Volleyball Takes on Creighton in the Second Game of the Season

Light'em up!
The USF Invitational tournament continues as the Bulls take on Creighton in the second game of the tournament.  The Bulls, 0-1, dropped the first game of the tournament to Wisconsin 3 sets to nothing and will look to rebound in this game.

Creighton, who beat UCF in the first game of the tournament 3 to 1, is coming off of a 17-14 (12-6) season from last year, but they were 5-8 away from home.  This will be another early measuring stick for the Bulls as they get the season started (game begins at 1PM in the Corral).

Creighton is led by senior setter Megan Bober (6-0) who recorded 276 kills, 748 assists, 25 service aces, 288 digs, and 77 blocks last season.  In the first win, she totaled 6 kills, 36 assists, and had 12 digs, doing a little bit of everything.  Senior middle-blocker Heather Thorson (6-3) recorded 248 kills, 32 digs, and 97 blocks last season (her role becomes even bigger replacing Laurel Sanford who was their top leader in kills last season). She had 12 kills and a dig in the first game. Sophomore setter Michelle Sicner (6-2) recorded 89 kills, 444 assists, 30 service aces, and 225 digs last season and is a key part of the Creighton rotation behind Bober. She had 6 kills in the first game.  Senior defensive specialist Brooke Boggs (5-8) recorded 9 kills, 12 service aces, and 241 digs last season (key member of the center of their formations).  She had 15 digs and a service ace in the first game. Sophomore middle-blocker Kelli Browning (6-4 recorded 54 kills, 3 digs, and 33 blocks as a reserve last season but should be relied on more this year.  She had 6 kills as well in the first game.

Creighton has a very solid team for the 2012 season with several young freshman in the mix, much like USF's squad.  The Bulls will need the veterans like Davis, Walton, Albano, and El Houssine to lead the younger players early in the season and against a team like Creighton that can be beaten if the Bulls limit the mistakes.  USF had a lot of mistakes in the first game and if they can get that corrected they should be able to hang tough and hopefully get that first win.
