Two True Freshmen at Defensive End Making Some Noise

There is really no question Ryne Giddins is the main man at defensive end this season for the Bulls, but the other side and the depth behind him are still up for debate.  As the team made it through training camp, two freshmen emerged that could make in impact this season off the edge and have the coaching staff talking.

First is Eric Lee, a 6-3 240-pound freshman out of Daphne, Alabama that enrolled early this spring and started working out with the team and due to some injuries and hard work, burst onto the depth chart.  Lee was a productive contributor off the edge his last two years, recording 62 tackles and 7.5 sacks, getting off the ball well, and working hard.  He is getting better and has a great work effort, impressing the coaches and has continued to show up on the depth chart and should be a factor this season.

The other freshman is Daniel Perry, 6-8 250-pounds, out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  The 3-star recruit, who only had a few offers (one from Oregon, strange to here them down there), added a lot of weight coming out of high school (was around 220-pounds in high school) and with the hard work, has moved onto the depth chart.  In his last two seasons in high school, he recorded 124 tackles and 12 sacks, showing his ability and raw skill set.  Perry, with his size and long frame, reminds me a little bit of a raw JPP, a huge name to live up to, but this size and frame are there and if he has moved onto the depth chart with his hard work, it just means the future is bright for him, the line, and the team in general.

The Bulls really do not want to rely on the freshmen to make major impacts this season, but knowing their is talent on the depth chart gives the starters more confidence in the guys behind them and the coaches more comfort knowing the future is bright.
