Chasing Grothe: Post-Game 1

Entering Game 1 of the 2012 season. B.J. Daniels was sitting on 7973 total career yards, 2902 behing Matt Grothe's Big East all-time yardage record. In order to stay on track, B.J. would need to average 242 yards per game to achieve the record in the regular season. After the game against UT-Chattanooga, it is clear that he'll probably need to go get some bonus yards somewhere else in order to feel a bit more comfortable with his chances. In a performance that wasn't quite abysmal, but was far from flawless, Daniels passed for 265 yards and ran for a net of 3, bringing his total to 268 yards for the season, which is technically on track, but against a presumably inferior opponent like UT-C, it leaves something to be desired. Either way, entering USF's second game of the season, B.J. will be 2634 yards from the record. In a 12 game season, that means his requisite average will drop to just under 240 yards per game. Considering a postseason appearance for the Bulls, he'd need 219.5 YPG. Nevada will be a much better opponent next week, so Daniels and the rest of the Bulls offense need to fix whatever problems they had in the opener if there will be any chance of staying on track this year.
