Bulls Beat Depaul, Stay Out of Big East Basement

The Bulls got a much need Big East win last night over lowly DePaul in the Battle for the Basement at the Sun Dome, 71 to 60. The Bulls came out sloppy in the first half, but were able to build a 10 point lead heading into the half and kept it going as they got the win over the Blue Demons, the 2nd win in conference play.

Hugh Robertson led the way for the Bulls with 16 points, showing his inside and outside game. Jawanza Poland had 11 points, including a monster dunk in the second half to send a message that the Bulls weren't going to lose this one. Augustus Gilchrist had 9 points and 10 rebounds coming off the bench (part of the rotation Heath is using now) and Toarlyn Fitzpatrick had a nice game with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Anderson had 6 points and 2 rebounds, Famous had 6 points and 4 rebounds (add in terrible defense), and Crater had 6 points and 7 assists.

The Bulls played well in this game, moving the ball around, and knocking down shots. They played bad in some parts, but were able to do enough to keep themselves out of the basement in the Big East. Now at 8-14 (2-7), the Bulls next travel to take on Providence next Wednesday at 7 PM. It could be another tough game for the Bulls on the road facing a guard dominated team in the Friars, but for now, the Bulls will build off of this win and hope that the next game continues with some momentum.
