Over the past few years, the Bulls have had incredible players at the defensive end position (George Selive and Jason Pierre-Paul). This season saw a young player begin to develop into a dominating pass rusher, Ryne Giddins. The redshirt freshman stepped up this season to help the defensive that lost several starters to the NFL. Now with a full season of experience behind him, Giddins is looking for more entering 2011. [keep reading]

Giddins, 6'3" 248-pounds, was a 4-star recruit when he came to USF and was one of the most decorated players to commit to the Bulls. This first season in 2009 ended after an injury, forcing him to redshirt, but this season, Giddins finally played up to his potential. He finished the season with 19 tackles, including 6 tackles for loss (3.5 sacks), 2 quarterback hurries, and even 1 interception. Giddins played behind Craig Marshall for most of the season, but when Marshall went down with foot surgery, Giddins, stepped up his game.

Giddins is a very fast pass rusher. He has an incredible first step that allows him to blow by the offensive tackle and get to the quarterback. He is very physical and can play the run. Snyder also likes to use him to drop back and play in the center of the field, allowing him to use his athletic ability.

Coming into the 2011 position, Giddins is going to be a starter. There is little experience at the defensive end position and Giddins has tons of potential, he is just beginning to show it on the field. Giddins was a freshman All-Big East 1st teamer and is looking to do even more this season. Giddins could be the next great defensive end at USF.
