From Greg Auman - Coach Jose Fernandez is one happy coach today. The Bulls have signed junior college Guard Inga Orekhova. This is a major recruiting win for Fernandez and staff. Orekhova was looking at Oklahoma and Louisville, but decided on USF instead.
Orekhova is a 6'2" guard that played last season NEO. She was originally born in the Ukraine, moved to Australia, and has now found her way to USF. She was the number 40 recruit according to ESPN in 2009. She will have 3-years of eligibility left when she joins the Bulls this fall.
Orekhova is a special talent for the Bulls and will give them tremendous firepower from the wing. Orekhova averaged 19.2 points last season with NEO and also led the team in steals and assists. She had post up and fire from 3-point range. She can also play the small forward position due to her height and skill set.
Orekhova joins Caitlin Rowe and fellow guards Tamara Taylor and Shalethia Stringfield in this year's recruiting class. Along with Andrea Smith returning after ACL surgery, Fernandez now has interior post size and unbelievable shooting and guard play with his year's recruits and the returning team.
The Bulls were 12-19 this year and struggled for long periods to get baskets and playing tough defense, with Orekhova and the incoming recruits plus the strong nucleus that Fernandez had last season, the ladies could find themselves playing in March next season.
Brilliant news! Sounds like a break-out year could be in store for USF Bulls. Go Bulls!
ReplyDeleteIt really is a great signing. Fernandez has one of his best classes coming in and a strong returning group. Should be a big season for the ladies.
