USF Takes on UCF Tonight

The Bulls now 22-21 (11-7) take on in-state foe UCF tonight in Tampa at 7 PM. UCF, 27-17 (7-11) will be looking for revenge in this game after the Bulls beat them earlier this season in their own home. USF is playing some of its best baseball right now and will look to capitalize on their momentum after sweeping St. John's.

There are 3 big time players to keep an eye on while facing UCF. DJ Hicks is a powerful slugger in the middle of the Knight batting order. He is hitting .354 on the year, launching 10 homeruns and have driven in 43 RBI. There is another powerful hitter, Jonathan Griffin who is batting .337 on the season with 12 homeruns and 37 RBI. Both of these hitters will be a big challenge for the USF pitching which has pitched well, but won have Randy Fontanez on the mound (named Big East pitcher of the week for his outing on Friday night). There is also Travis Shreve, a speedy leadoff hitter, that is batting .318 on the season with 14 RBI, he is also 21 of 25 in steal attempts on the season.

This is a big game for the Bulls who are finally back at .500 in over two years and are starting to play better and feel better about themselves. The sweep over St. John's has a huge boost for the team late in the season as they try to keep the recent streak of great play going. They have an outside chance of making the NCAA tournament and need to win a ton of games down the stretch (will probably have to win the Big East tournament to get into the NCAA, but stranger things have happened). I will be at the game tonight, so expect a full recap tomorrow morning after the game, detailing fan attendance, happenings at the game, etc. You may even see me at the game, so don't be a stranger!
