Could cornerback Mywan Jackson be transferring to USF soon? |
Like V5 and Greg Auman have stated, the Bulls are always in the mix for transfers (when did we become a haven for the transfers?). With James Louis lingering out there as a possible transfer (coming from Ohio State, may decide by Friday), there is another player to watch, cornerback back Mywan Jackson. [keep reading]
Mywan Jackson, the 5-11 185-pund defensive back out of Seffner, Florida (Armwood High School) is leaving UNC citing "family issues" as his reason (Butch Davis has no effect on this right?). Jackson, former high school teammate with Ryne Giddins, played two seasons in Chapel Hill, starting 5 games last season, recording 20 tackles and breaking up 3 passes. He had a solid Spring and had been penciled in as a starter before his decision to transfer.
Jackson would be a nice addition to the team. He still has his redshirt available and would have two years of eligibility if he sat out this season. With Quenton Washington the only senior on the roster, the secondary could get a big boost from him coming. Baker and Webster would be seniors next season along with Spencer Boyd, Ricardo Dixon, Kenneth Durden and incoming commits Chris Bivins and D.J. White (once they sign and make it official).
So what are the chances he comes to USF? I would rate them higher than James Louis at this point. An assistant at UNC said Jackson would like to play closer to home, it doesn't get much closer than USF. While he hasn't been quotes saying it, it sounds like he could even wait a little bit longer for a scholarship, longer than James Louis is wanting to wait (wants to enroll before Spring semester). Plus the need for a cornerback with great experience is higher than wide receiver right now for the Bulls, although having both of them would be huge. Hopefully we will find out sooner than later what Jackson and Louis are going to be up to.
I'd much rather have Jackson as well. We have good depth a WR right now (would have never said that last season) and good DBs are hard to find.
ReplyDeleteI agree. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd go with Jackson. It's not like another transfer in Spencer Boyd is lighting the world on fire either. We could use all the depth we can get in that defensive backfield.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Jackson would be a nice addition to the secondary. He is a good player, experienced, and could come in next season and give Snyder a solid defensive back that is ready and help break the freshman and younger players in slowly.
