From Adam Adkins and Greg Auman - Breaking news tonight and the first bad news from the USF Fall camp. Coach Holtz announced tonight that freshman defensive lineman Brandon Wilkinson and sophomore running back Dontae Aycock are leaving the team and won't play this fall.
This is really surprising news to hear. Wilkinson, the 6-4 230-pound defensive lineman from Venice, Florida has stated he will transfer to a I-AA program or go the JUCO route. Holtz stated that Wilkinson didn't want to wait to play and will seek another program to get a chance at playing right away.
Aycock, the 5-10 235-pound running back, also stated he won't play this fall but will continue his education at USF. The former Chamberlain star came to USF from Auburn and was a big time transfer for the program, but the off season surgery and sitting out a season (mix in he is listed as the third running back) were probably all factors in his decision. Aycock did battle with some weight issues over the summer and according to Holtz is heart was just not into football anymore. A lot of expectation came with Aycock, but now expect Scott, Murray, and and Shaw to carry the load all season.
We will have plenty more coverage on his developing story as it comes out. We wish the both of them the best of luck in their careers.
