Final Thoughts on Aycock

Dontae Aycock is calling it quits for football.
The news broke yesterday that running back Dontae Aycock, the former Chamberlain star is giving up football and focusing his time on his studies while remaining at USF to achieve his degree.

The 5-10 tailback was one of the best running backs in the nation when he was recruited by Auburn, leaving his hometown. But after sitting back on the depth chart, Aycock decided to transfer back home to USF. He sat out the 2010 season and had knee surgery and did not participate in the Spring practices, but was suppose to be a go for the Fall, but he has decided to call it quits at football.

Holtz did mention that Aycock had been battling through some weight issues this Summer and was not in the best shape and this may have been another deciding factor in his decision. Aycock stated that his heart wasn't in football anymore, which would explain the lack of work ethic and the weight issue he had over the summer.

Does this hurt depth at the running back position, yes and no. While he was a talented running back, he had slipped into a battle for 3rd spot on the depth chart with Marcus Shaw. Scott and Murray had taken over the 1 and 2 spots on the roster and all the talk about Shaw left Aycock the lone man out. Aycock could have risen up the roster chart with a strong fall, but he is now out and we wish him the best as he continues his education at USF.

This frees up a scholarship (along with Wilkinson) so Holtz could add a transfer or work towards the 2012 recruiting class. Mike McFarnald the new transfer from UF, could take a scholarship if he has a strong Fall camp, so it will be decided down the road as the Bulls continue their practice without a running back.
