Lelo Prado got some bad news last night. |
From Adam Adkins - While we are all about football right now, we can't forget Prado and the difficulty for the baseball program. Now the Bulls get more bad news as 1st base commitment, Roderick "Rock" Shoulders, the big powerful hitter from the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota is signing with the Cubs.
The Cubs selected Rock in the 20th round of the Amateur draft this year and has been taking classes at USF this summer, weighing his decision on going pro or staying at USF to play for Prado. After a recent with the Cubs staff, he is signing a deal that is worth, according to Shoulders "3rd round money" and financial support for him to continue to take classes as well.
Shoulders hit .318 while with Manatee-Sarasota, including 14 home runs, and drove in 58 RBIs. We wish Shoulders well even though we didn't get a chance to create all the fun titles to stories through his career at USF. Come on, Rock Shoulders, the possibilities are endless.
This is a major blow to Coach Prado and his team that is coming off of a rough season where the offense simply couldn't get anything going and now a bat they were hoping for is heading to the Cubs for the money and chance to play in the big leagues. I personally don't blame Shoulders for the move. To get guaranteed money at that level, to be taken into an organization like the Cubs and their history, and the fact they are going to pay for his schooling (according to him) it is a chance that may not come again. So good luck Shoulders and good luck finding offense Prado.
Man, Prado needs bats badly. His recruiting has been absolutely dreadful during his tenure at USF. He either aims really high and gets kids that wind up signing MLB contracts, or recruits all the kids coming from Jesuit (an exaggeration, I know). He has to be on the hot seat this season.
ReplyDeletePressure has to be on him this season. Shoulders would have helped the offense that is now looking like a high school lineup. Prado is bad at recruiting, no question about it and the top kids he aims for go for MLB money, don't blame them. With the expectations around the program, he needs to have a good season his hot seat gets a lot warmer.
