The 2011-2012 men's basketball season got off to a good start for the Bulls as they beat Vermont 61 to 59 in home opener, at UT. The Bulls battled a tough Vermont defense, battling for each point, but the Bulls were able to hang on late and come away with a huge win (despite the controversy of not having replay at the end of the game).
Ron Anderson Jr. had 16 points to lead the way to lead the Bulls. Heath had only 8 players eligible for this game, giving him a short bench. Augustus Gilchrist had 12 points, but was just 6 of 16 shooting from the field, not the best night for him. Blake Nash had just 3 points in his limited minutes (waiting for him to get more time and more shots going). Shaun Noriega had 15 points as he showcases his hard work from the off season. Victor Rudd had 12 points in his first real action of the year. Shaun Noriega had 6 assists and no turnovers as he got the start at point guard and did a great job.
This was a nice win for the Bulls, especially with a limited bench and a tough opponent in front of them. The Bulls will take the win, but will have to get better on offense and lock down on defense as the season continues. They will face Marist on Monday night at the St. Pete Times Forum. They will need to get off to a better start in that game as they look for win number two.
