What Returns for USF in 2012: Secondary

The USF secondary will have some new faces in 2012.  Seniors Jerrell Young and Quenton Washington have both graduated, leaving the secondary with young talent, but also thin.  Key players return, but the team will have to find new playmakers to step up and take their places.  Let's see what returns for USF in 2012.

At cornerback, junior Kayvon Webster (5-11 195-pounds) returns after starting all of last season.  He was named second team All Big East and continues to get better on the edge.  Junior George Baker (5-11 180-pounds) also returns, giving USF two solid corners from last year.  At the other corner spot, sophomore JaQuez Jenkins (6-2 183-pounds) returns for the Bulls, although their is a chance he could move to free safety to take over the spot left behind by Jerrell Young.

Sophomore Mark Joyce (5-10 195-pounds) returns as a key reserve player at free safety and will battle for a starting job.  At strong safety, junior Jon Lejiste (6-0 201-pounds) returns, giving USF a solid returning starter and with back-up Tyson Butler gone, he will have to step up even more this coming season.

The Bulls have several players returning as well that will all battle for playing time.  Sophomore Ricardo Dixon (5-11 167-pounds) is coming off of ACL surgery and will miss the spring, but should be healthy for the fall.  Sophomore Brandon Salinas (6-0 174-pounds) returns and will look to get more chances to get on the field (played a key reserve role last season as injuries mounted for USF).  Freshman Spencer Boyd (5-10 179-pounds) is back as well.  He was suspended for the last two games, so hopefully he can clear up those issues and return to the field.  Junior walk-on Ernie Tabuteau (5-10 180-pounds) returns as well after missing the later half of the season with injuries.  Freshman Kenneth Durden (6-0 170-pounds) is back as well.  He was a top recruit last year and will get his chance to play early and often.

Freshman C.J. Garye (6-3 206-pounds) is a safety that will have a chance to play early this season.  Freshman Trevan Griffin (6-0 203-pounds), sophomore Patrice Pierre (6-2 200-pounds), Tyler Robb (5-9 196-pounds), and junior Allen Singleton (6-0 195-pounds) all return as well on the depth chart, but the returning starters and key reserves will have to get the job done this season.

The Bulls have some answers to solve this off season as they prepare for 2012.  The Bulls are lacking experienced depth in the secondary and will have to rely on young talent to rise and step up in the secondary to get the job done.
