What Returns for USF in 2012: Linebackers

USF was led by the play of the linebackers last season and looking to 2012, the linebacker spot will be the strength of the defense.  With all three 2011 starters returning and the great depth behind them, look for the linebackers to come up big in 2012.

Junior Sam Barrington (6-1 234-pounds) returns as the starting SAM linebacker.  He had a huge season in 2011 and will continue to produce.  Behind him is freshman Reshard Cliett (6-2 218-pounds) who got more playing time as the season went on.  The Bulls are high on him and need him to step up with senior Curtis Weatherspoon gone off the depth chart.  Junior Mike Lanaris (6-0 235-pounds) returns as the hard hitter at the MIKE linebacker position.  Freshman Ruben Garcia (6-0 232-pounds) is his back-up and is working to get onto the field in 2012.  Sophomore Dede Lattimore (6-1 234-pounds) returns for his junior season after leading the team in tackles in 2011.  He is a violent hitter and gets after the quarterback.  Behind him is junior Mike Juene (6-0 227-pounds) who plays a key role in special teams as well.

Freshman Zack Bullock (6-3 210-pounds), freshman Edsel Caprice (6-2 204-pounds), freshman Corian Hamilton (6-0 230-pounds), and freshman Antoine Pozniak (6-2 218-pounds) all came to USF last season and will have to progress this season to help provide more depth on the roster and help strength the position for the future. Junior Armando Sanchez (6-0 218-pounds) returns and provides key leadership on special teams.  Other names such as sophomore Cody Durakovic (6-1 230-pounds), junior Kalin Hall (6-2 221-pounds), and freshman Hans Louis (6-0 215-pounds) will also be in the mix for playing time.

Overall, the linebacking unit is the most experienced unit.  They have incredible depth and a lot of young talent on the roster that will play a key role for the season and for the future.
