USF 2012 Baseball: Adrian Puig

Adrian Puig - 6-0 205-pounds - Junior - RHP

Puig is another member of the USF pitching staff that will have to carry more of the workload this season as the Bulls enter 2012. In 2010, Puig pitched 10.1 innings (6 appearnaces) allowing 11 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 5. He had a 6.97 ERA and opponents hit .326 against him, not the most impressive numbers in relief for USF.

In 2011, Puig had 6 appearances again, but worked just 7.1 innings of relief. He allowed 9 hits in his limited chances, but issued no walks and struck out 5 batters, showing his changed approach of attacking the strike zone. Batters hit .310 against him, putting the ball in play, but he cut his ERA down to 3.68, nearly half of what it was a year before.

Puig improved his numbers after last season and will have to continue that trend in 2012. With Quackenbush gone (MLB), the bullpen needs veteran arms to step up and fill the void left, Puig has the potential to do that.
