Andrew Longley was the hero in this game (Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
The Bulls battled one of the best teams in the nation, clawing for hits, but managed to get the big ones late as they beat Michigan State 2 to 1 in the bottom of the 9th inning to improve to 2-0 to start the season.

Joey Lovecchio, making his first start for USF, went 5 strong innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 run, and struck out 3 batters.  The Bulls bullpen came up big once more as Matt Reed went 3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk, and struck out one batter.  Austin Adams came in for the top of the 9th and struck out 2 batters (allowed one walk).

The offense was held in check for most of the game.  Daniel Rockhold went 2 for 4 on the day.  In the 8th inning, Alex Mendez got on base with a double (went 1 for 4) and scored on the double by James Ramsay (also 1 for 4).  Adams took care of the Spartans in the top of the 9th and Andrew Longley launched the first home run of the season for the Bulls as they clinch a huge win early in the season.

The Bulls will take on Minnesota tomorrow (game scheduled for 1PM) in the last round of the Big Ten/Big East Challenge
