USF MBB Falls to Syracuse 48 to 56

The USF Bulls, 17-11 (10-5), took an early lead against 2nd ranked Syracuse in the first half, leading 12 to 5 at one point, but the Orange locked USF down, keeping the Bulls off the scoreboard for nearly 12 minutes while they came to take the huge lead.

USF shot just 38% for the game, but shot just 23% from 3-point range later in the game as they failed to make their shots. The Bulls out rebounded Syracuse 39 to 30, but had 17 turnovers (12 in the first half) compared to just 11 assists. USF made a game of it late, but it was just too much Syracuse at the end, but the Bulls showed fight as they try to make it to the NCAA tournament late in the season.

Anthony Collins led the day for USF, proving he is playing beyond the freshman level. He had 12 points, 10 assists, and 2 steals on the day (had 8 turnovers though). Ron Anderson Jr. had just 2 points (1 of 8 shooting) with 2 rebounds. Augustus Gilchrist had 6 points (shooting 3 of 7) and had 8 rebounds. Gilchrist took some bad shots during the game, but the team overall had a hard time finding the rim during the game. Victor Rudd had just 3 points, shooting 1 of 6 from 3-point range (can't beat anyone like that) with 7 rebounds. Hugh Robertson had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Toarlyn Fitzpatrick had 11 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Jawanza Poland had 8 points and 6 rebounds as well.

Face the facts, many had Syracuse winning this game big, but USF showed fight and determination, standing up to the blows from one of the best teams in the nation and had them on their heals for most of the game. USF has come a long way and continues to battle with everyone as they reach new levels no one thought they could do this season. USF still has a lot of work to do and the game vs. Cincinnati on Sunday at noon is going to be one of the biggest games of the season. Tip of the cap tonight for the team for playing their hearts out.
