USF Softball Splits Double Header

The Bulls were back in action today as they played another double header in the NFCA Tournament.  USF dominated the first day, but ran into some trouble starting with the first game.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, BU was able to get to the USF pitching.  Lindsey Richardson went 4 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, walking 1, and struck out 5 in another strong performance.  Sam Greiner struggled, getting just one out while allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, and walking one, taking the loss (1-1).  Sara Nevins finished the final 2.2 innings, allowing 2 hits and struck out 2.  Gina Kafalas went 1 for 3 with a walk.  Kenshyra Jackson went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.  Alexis Nowell went 2 for 3 with an RBI as the Bulls dropped just their second game of the season, 8-2.

In the second game, the Bulls took care of business, beating Illinois State 6 to 3 and improve to 9-2 on the season as they rebound after the loss to start the day.

Sam Greiner went 2.2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, walking 2 and struck out 2.  Sara Nevins went 4.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, and struck out 9 batters. Gina Kafalas went 3 for 4 on the day.  Stephanie Medina went 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Kourtney Salvarola went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.  Kenshyra Jackson went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs as the offense came to life.

USF is now 9-2 on the year, continuing the huge start to the 2012 season.  The Bulls get a chance to get to double digit wins tomorrow when they take on Illinois State at 2:45PM in Clearwater as they make up their rained out game.  Another day, another great start to the season for the ladies.
