USF Faces Central Connecticut and the Netherlands National Team

The USF Bulls, 17-4 on the year, head to Clearwater to take on two opponents at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in day two of the USF Under Armour Showcase Tournament.

The Bulls will face Central Connecticut first (game is scheduled for 4:15PM) and then will face the Netherlands National team in an exhibition (scheduled to start at 6:30) to close out the afternoon.

Central Connecticut is 4-4 on the year, but has won their last 4 straight games, so they are on a roll of their own entering the game.

They are led by senior outfielder Rebecca Mussatti who is batting .190 with 4 RBIs.  Junior infielder Nicole Springer is batting .294 with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs, providing the power in the middle of the order.  Sophomore outfielder Arielle Bruno is batting .261 with 1 home run and 3 RBIs.  Junior 3rd baseman Macy Stefanski is batting .350 with 4 RBIs and senior short stop Sarah Vlahos is batting .250. Freshman RHP Laura Messina is 2-2 on the year while working 26.1 innings, allowing 28 hits, 10 walks, and has struck out 16 batters, so the Bulls will have to find away to get hits off of her.  Medina, Jackson, and Richardson all had home runs last year and if they are able to continue to heat up in the heart of the order, the Bulls will be even more dangerous.

After facing Central Connecticut, the Bulls will get a chance to play the Netherlands national team in a friendly exhibition game.  The Bulls got to play them last year, inking out a 2 to 1 win.  It is a great learning experience, especially for the young players on the team as they continue to work towards the postseason.

The Bulls will return home tomorrow to face Toledo at 3:30 PM.
