USF Softball to Face Toledo

The USF Bulls, 18-4 on the year, return home after a strong performance in Clearwater to face Toledo (scheduled Toledo to replace the missed game with Drake earlier in the season).  The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30PM.

The Rockets (5-15 on the year, scheduled to face Kennesaw State at 11:30 in Clearwater before facing USF) comes into the game looking to notch a big win, giving the Bulls a real challenge as they return home.

The Rockets are led by junior outfielder Lindsey Tobias who is batting .296 with 11 RBIs and has 6 steals on the season.  Freshman 1st baseman Leigh Nebendahl is batting .311 with 7 RBIs.  Senior Jillian Spink is batting .286 with 8 RBIs on the year.  Freshman outfielder Alyssa Smith is batting .256 with 4 runs driven in and senior middle infielder/outfielder Brooke Gates is batting .271 with 4 RBIs.  They are not a powerful lineup, but will get on base and work counts to manufacture runs.  The Bulls pitching staff must be ready and keep them off base.  The Toledo pitching staff is led by freshman LHP Ali Beery who is 2-6 on the year (5.84 ERA) while working 44.2 innings, allowing 58 hits, 28 walks, and has struck out 22 (.310 batting average against her).  Freshman RHP Casi Rohr is 2-7 (5.69 ERA) while working 55.1 innings, allowing 52 hits, 33 walks, and has struck out 39 batters (.248 batting average against her).

The Rockets have not had a lot of success this season on the mound either, so the Bulls should be able to take advantage with their batting order and get runs on the board early and often.  The Bulls have found their power swing as of late and could continue that trend this game.  After this game, the Bulls will face Canisius on Wednesday at 5PM during Spring break.
