Top 5 Offensive Players from 2011: Number 3

At number three on the countdown, we will move away from the backfield and look to the outside for the next player on the list.  There are a lot of wide receivers that came up big for USF, but let's see who rose above on the list.

Deonte Welch/Andre Davis

Once again, it was too difficult to name just one player to this position on the countdown, so we decided to go with two young, explosive playmakers at the wide receiver position.

David emerged as a sure handed target down field.
Andre Davis, the true freshman, made an impact in his first season.  The tall receiver caught 22 passes for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He also had a blocked punt on the year as well, showing his great athletic ability.  Davis is a sure-handed target that gives the quarterback a big target down the field.  He will most likely be a starter this season, giving the Bulls a huge vertical weapon down the field.

The other receiver, redshirt freshman Deonte Welch, came on late for the Bulls, proving to the coaches in practice he deserved a shot and he didn't disappoint.

The "YAC" master.
Welch, who earned the nickname the "YAC" master (yards after catch for his ability to turn the ball up field) finished the year with 31 receptions for 433 yards and one touchdown, proving he earned the nickname.  Now that he has a full year under his belt, he will only get better this season and will be a primary target for the Daniels this year.

The Bulls have a lot of young talent, especially at wide receiver, but these two haven risen above the rest early in their careers? Agree with the pick?  Let's know what you think about it.
