USF Softball Gets Back to Work Against Bethune Cookman

After a weekend off, the Bulls, 40-8 (13-3) get back to work as they look to defend home turf against Bethune Cookman.  BC is 24-23 on the season (9-0 in the MEAC), they are just 7-6 away from Daytona this season, so the rested Bulls should be ready to get back to work after a bit of a rough series last time out against Louisville (game starts at 5PM).

BC is led by junior infielder Michelle Banuelos-Smith (5-4) who is batting .362 on the season with 6 home runs, 31 RBIs, and has 9 steals on the season (power and speed on the bases).  Junior infielder Aurelia Gamch (5-4) is batting .340 with 2 home runs and has 21 RBIs on the year.  Freshman catcher Karina Roberts (5-7) is batting .323 with 4 doubles, 4 triples, and has 19 RBIs.  Sophomore infielder Kelsey Rodney (5-5) is batting .297 with 4 home runs and has 30 RBIs.  BC has a solid batting order that will put pressure on USF.  Look for Nevins to get back to her dominating self with Greiner and Richardson ready to take over late if needed.

BC's pitching staff is anchored by sophomore Shanel Tolbert who is 24-18 on the season with a 3.22 ERA.  She has worked an insane 260.2 innings, allowing 311 hits, 57 walks, and has struck out 94 batters (we thought Nevins threw a lot of innings).  Tolbert has a very high hit number and a low strike out number, showing she pitches to contact, something USF lives on.  Look for the USF hitters to slap hits all over the field and put pressure on BC early and often.

The Bulls will return to action on Saturday as they host Villanova for the last home series (before a regional maybe?) of the season.
