USF Softball Hits the Road for a 3-Game Set Again UCONN

The Bulls, 38-5 (11-0) on the year, hit the road for a key 3-game series against the UCONN Huskies.  The Bulls, after sweeping Providence on Wednesday, set a program record with their 18th win in a row.  They will look to notch a few more wins on the road and keep the streak going, but the lady Huskies are a solid team with a powerful lineup.  They are 17-15 (6-3) on the year and are a perfect 7-0 at home, so something has to give as the Bulls come to town.

UCONN is led by senior catcher/outfielder Amy Vaughan who is batting .357 with 9 home runs and has 31 RBIs (big time power in her bat).  Junior outfielder/1B Marissa Guches is batting .327 with 5 home runs and has 22 RBIs on the season.  Freshman short stop Emily O'Donnell is batting .330 with 8 home runs (7 doubles) and has 23 RBIs.  Junior utility player Kim Silva is batting .307 with 5 home runs and has 16 RBIs.  Senior outfielder Jennifer Ward is batting .239 with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs, and has 16 steals on the season.  The Huskies have batters up and down their order that can make some power.  The USF pitching staff, led by Sara Nevins who enters the series with a .58 ERA leads the Bulls into the game as they look to shot down the Huskies.  The Bulls have Lindsey Richardson back in the rotation who can help as well.

The Huskies pitching staff is led by junior RHP Kiki Saveriano who is 11-8 on the year (2.77 ERA) while throwing 111 innings, allowing 123 hits, 44 walks, has 86 strike outs and allows opponents to hit .270 against her.  Freshman RHP Lauren Duggan is 4-5 on the year (4.17 ERA) who has tossed 40.1 innings, allowing 54 hits, 17 and has struck out 12 batters (.309 batting average against her).  The Bulls have the power to put up some hits in this series and get plenty of runs on the board to support the Bulls pitching staff.

The Bulls will play two game today, the first at noon and the second game at 2PM.  The Bulls will wrap up the series on Sunday at 11AM.
