USF Softball Takes on Louisville for a Key Two-Game Double Header

It is big time Big East show down.  The USF Bulls are 40-6 (13-1) on the year and are coming off of a series win over UCONN over the weekend.  The Bulls sit in first place in the conference, but now must face the 12th ranked Louisville Cardinals that sit right behind in in second place in the conference.  The Cardinals are 38-2 (9-2) on the year and have major power in their batting order.  This could a league defining series for both sides.  First game is slated to start at 4:30PM, the second game starts at 6:30PM.

Lville is led by senior outfielder Kristin Austin (5-5) who is batting an insane .418 on the year with 1 home run, 13 RBIs, and has 8 steals on the season.  Junior 1B Alicia Wolny (5-9) is batting .395 with 5 home runs (8 doubles) and has 25 RBIs on the season.  Sophomore catcher/1B/3B Tanner Fowler (5-5) is batting .375 with 5 home runs and has 31 RBIs on the season.  Sophomore 2B Katie Keller (5-2) is batting .342 with 5 home runs and has 30 RBIs on the season.  The Cards have a deep and talented batting order that will challenge the USF pitching staff.

The Cards pitching staff is led by senior LHP Tori Collins (5-10) who is 18-1 on the year (1.11 ERA) while working 120.1 innings, allowing 69 hits, 32 walks and has 136 strike outs on the season, proving to be a real ace the Bulls will have to contend with.  Sophomore RHP Caralisa Connell (5-8) is 13-1 (1.51 ERA) while working 79 innings, allowing 55 hits, 37 walks and has struck out 63 batters on the year.  The Cards have strong starting pitching that will challenge the Bulls.  The top of the order with Kafalas, Richardson, and Medina will have to get the job done.

The Bulls are in a great position to set themselves far ahead of Louisville for the Big East title if they take take the games in the double header, but it won't be easy.  The Bulls have shown they have been able to take down top ranked foes and will need an all around effort in these two games.
