Meet the Ball State Coaching Staff

The Bulls are back on the road and will be facing the coaching staff of Ball State that is entering its second season with Head Coach Pete Lembo who is entering his second season at the helm (Holtz in his third with USF, so two young staffs going at it).

Head Coach Pete Lembo - Lembo, entering his second season at the helm of the Cardinals, joined the Bulls in 2011 and lead them to a 6-6 (4-4) season in his first year in the MAC.  Lembo came to Ball State after spending 2006 to 2010 as the head coach at Elon where he led them to a record of 35-22.  Before Elon, he was the head coach of Lehigh where he led them to a record of 44-14, showing his ability to turn a program around and he is already doing that with the Cardinals, bringing in a balanced defense and an up-temp offense that can cause some issues.  He is a smart and respected man and will have his team ready for this game.

Offensive coordinator Rich Skorsky - Skorsky is entering his second season as the OC for the Cardinals, coming over with Lembo from Elon where he was the assistant and offensive coordinator there from 2006 to 2010.  Before that, he was an assistant from 2001 to 2005 for Columbia.  Skorsky brings a spread offensive system that allows the quarterback to move a lot and gets the team back to the line and the ball snapped fast, so the pace of the game will be quick for the Bulls and the defense will have to make sure they are ready and keep up with their pace.

Defensive coordinator Jay Bateman - Bateman, also entering his second full season, came to Ball State following Lembo from Elon and was also part of his Lehigh stat in 2005.  Bateman runs a 4-3 base system that relies on the front 7 to be the strength of the defense.  Like USF and Coach Cosh, they are a smart team that does not gamble a lot, stays back, and swarms to the ball carrier and will have to contend with the speed of the Bulls offense.
