Scouting FSU: Special Teams

Special teams is so important for any team and for a game against the talent level of FSU, the Bulls will have to play a perfect game on special teams and make all the key plays in order to keep field possession and make smart plays.

At the place kicker position is senior Dustin Hopkins (6-2 190-pounds) who is 3 of 5 in field goals with a long of 30 yards.  Hopkins is also the kick-off specialist for the Noles and has kicked off 38 times, landing 18 for touchbacks.  He has a tremendous leg and will make life hard for the USF kick return team when he really lets the ball fly.

At the punter position is freshman Cason Beatty (6-3 229-pounds). He has punted just 11 times this season, averaging 38.5 yards per kick and has landed 7 of them inside the opponents 20 yard line.  Beatty gives the Noles defense a big advantage in field position, something the Bulls have to be ready for. Behind him is redshirt freshman Dillon Kidd (6-1 222-pounds).

At the punt return position is sophomore Rashad Greene (6-0 170-pounds).  He has returned 14 for 241 yards on the season.  Next to him is junior Kenny Shaw (6-0 170-pounds).  Also back to return punts is sophomore Tyler Hunter (5-11 190-pounds) who has returned 1 punt for 4 yards.

At the kick return position is sophomore Karlos Williams (6-1 230-pounds). who has returned 2 for 52 yards.  Back with him is freshman Ronald Darby (5-11 189-pounds).  The Noles also use two other deep men for the kick returns.  Junior Lamarcus Joyner (5-8 195-pounds), who has returned 5 for 185 yards, and freshman Marvin Bracy (5-9 172-pounds) also are back to return kicks.  The USF coverage team, that allowed a few big returns to Ball State, have to do a better job against top athletes that the Noles have.
