Tulsa,, played New Mexico on Friday night and wants to improve
on its 2011 season where they finished just 5-12 (1-7) and 9th place
in C-USA. The Golden Hurricanes return 8
starters, including their goalkeeper, making another tough challenge for the
Bulls on the road.
The Golden Hurricanes will have to find production from
their returning squad as top goal scorer from last season Corey Albertson (6
goals) graduated (like USF with Dom Dwyer).
Tulsa does return junior midfielder Christian Mata (5-9
150-pounds) who scored 4 goals and 4 assists in 2011 and has 1 goal to start 2012. Sophomore forward/midfielder Stephen Roberson
(5-7 155-pounds) scored 3 goals (11 SOG) and added 4 assists in 2011. Sophomore midfielder Tony Rocha (5-9
165-pounds) scored 1 goal and added 5 assists in 2011, helping moving and orchestrate
the offense (has 1 assist this season). Senior defender Jake
Dobkins (6-0 170-pounds) added 1 goal and 2 assists as well last year (has one goal this year). Keep an eye out for Bryce Follensbee who has 3 goals already this season.
In net is junior goalkeeper Michael Murray (5-11 195-pounds)
who allowed 27 goals last season and made 53 saves. Allowing 27 goals is a high number, showing
the Tulsa backline has some holes in it, meaning the USF offensive attack, a
very aggressive one, should be able to keep the pressure on them during the
game. He has only allowed 1 goal this year with 6 saves, so it will be a challenge for the Bulls to get this big win.
Tulsa has a solid team that has a lot of young players, but
the Bulls have more experience and more firepower than they do. Stars like Edwin Moalosi has even gotten started yet on
offense, so the Bulls have tremendous depth and talent, and will out run Tulsa.
