USF Baseball Beats Notre Dame in Second Game of the Series

The USF Bulls brought out the bats tonight, beating Notre Dame 11 to 6 to even the series up.  USF is now 19-9 (4-1) on the year now with the strong come back win and will look to take the series tomorrow at 1PM.

Joey Lovecchio got the start, working 6.2 innings, allowing 8 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and struck out 3 batters.  Nick Gonzalez went 1.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and struck out 1 batter.  Adrian Puig went 1 inning, allowing a hit, a walk, a run, and struck out one batter.

Alex Mendez went 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs.  Chad Taylor went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI.  Daniel Rockhold went 1 for 4 with a home run.  Jimmy Fall went 2 for 5 with an RBI.  Zac Gilcrease went 2 for 3 and scored 2 runs and Luis Llerena went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs.

This is a strong win for USF after they dropped the first game in extra innings.  The Bulls will look to take the series tomorrow at 1PM before they take on Stetson on Tuesday night.

USF Softball Sweeps Pitt in Double Header

The Bulls continued to roll as they hit the road for the first time in conference play, taking both games of the double header against Pitt to run their record to 32-5 on the year, 5-0 in conference play.

The Bulls won 5 to 0 in game one behind the no hitter thrown by ace Sara Nevins.  Nevins worked the entire game, striking out a career high 16 batters as the left hander had the Pitt Panthers locked up the entire game.  The offense did more than enough as well with Gina Kafalas going 1 for 4, Kenshyra Jackson going 1 for 3 with a home run driving in 3 runs, and Kourtney Salvarola going 2 for 3 as well.

The Bulls kept it going in game two, winning 4 to 0.  Sam Greiner worked 6.2 innings, allowing just 2 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 3 batters.  Sara Nevins recorded the last out via a strike out.  Janine Richardson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Jessica Mouse went 1 for 2 with a home run that drove in two runs.

It was another big day for USF.  The Bulls finished last year with 33 wins, they can match that total tomorrow as they look to sweep the series in the final game, starting at 11AM.

USF Softball Hits the Road to Take on Pitt

The USF Bulls, 30-5 (3-0) on the year and fresh off of their big win over 4th ranked Florida, hit the road to continue their Big East portion of the schedule, facing Pitt over the weekend.

Pitt enters the series at 16-13 (0-3) on the year and are 2-2 at home.  They will be looking for a big weekend on their home field, so the Bulls have to be ready for them and come out swinging away as they try to continue to rack up the wins (two games today in the double header, the first at 12 noon, the second game at 2PM. They wrap up the series on Sunday at 11AM).

USF Baseball Falls to Notre Dame in Extra Innings

Andrew Barbosa struck out 14 batters, but the Bulls were not able to answer the Irish as they dropped the first game of the series (Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
The USF Bulls got an outstanding start from senior Andrew Barbosa in the first game of the series, but it fell apart as the Irish rallied in the 10th inning to score 5 runs, beating USF 3 to 8.  USF, now 18-9 (3-1) , were able to come back in the 8th to tie the game and had a chance in the 9th inning to win the game with the bases loaded, but were not able to get a run in and the Irish took it in extras.

USF Baseball Set to Take on Notre Dame

The USF Bulls continue their long home stand as they welcome Big East foe Notre Dame to Tampa for a key 3-game series over the weekend.

USF enters the weekend with a record of 18-8 (3-0).  Notre Dame is 15-7 (3-0) on the year, but just 1-3 away from home this year.  Last season, ND swept the Bulls in South Bend, so Prado and company will be looking to return the favor this season.  The Bulls have been getting incredible pitching so far this season, but will need to be at their best when they face the Irish in this series (game tonight scheduled for 7PM, game on Friday scheduled for 6PM, and the series wraps up on Sunday at 1PM).

James Ramsay Emerging in his Sophomore Season

James Ramsay is off to a great start this season (Picture:  USF Athletics)
The USF Bulls entered the season wondering where the power would emerge in their batting order and so far, the team is stepping up big, racking up the run total and the wins.  One batter, coming off of a strong freshman campaign is sophomore outfielder James Ramsay.

NOW WILL YOU GO TO SOFTBALL GAMES PLEASE

If you thought you needed some more convincing to go to softball games, consider yourself convinced. USF just traveled to #4 ranked Florida and pummeled them. They'll be awaiting a top-20 ranking next week, and they've already achieved 30 wins. Last year, Coach Ken Ericksen said they'd need 35 to make the tournament. They're five wins away from that mark now, and they still have a month and a half left in the regular season. Riding a ten-game winning streak, they're about to travel to Pitt to try and go 6-0 in the Big East.

USF Baseball Beats FAMU

The USF Bulls kept their winning streak alive as they rallied in the 9th to beat FAMU 6 to 5, getting a walk-off win on a fielder's choice by Kyle Teaf to drive in Luis Llerena as the Bulls improve to 18-8 (3-0) on the year.

FAMU jumped on the board early, scoring 2 runs to go ahead to start the game, but the USF pitching put a stop to that and the timely hitting of the offense came around and got the job done.

USF Softball Beats 4th Ranked Florida

Sara Nevins is good at this softball thing.
The USF Bulls continued to roll as they went to Gainesville and beat the 4th ranked Gators, 4 to 1, the first win in 12 tries for the ladies.  USF, now 3-5 (3-0), jumped out to an early lead in this game, but faced a few bases loaded situations from the Gators, but Sara Nevins, as she has done all year, got out of the jams and secured the huge win for the 21st ranked Bulls.

USF Softball Takes on Florida

The 22nd ranked USF Bulls, 29-5 (3-0) on the year, get a mid-week game against the 4th ranked Gators who are 29-2 (10-1) on the year and are 13-0 at home, posing a huge challenge for the Bulls as they hit the road.  The Bulls pushed the Gators this year in Tampa, falling 2 to 3.  USF has been on a roll recently, but will need to be at their best in this game (game starts at 6PM).

USF Baseball Takes on FAMU

The USF Bulls, 17-8 (3-0) fresh off of their sweep of Georgetown are at home as they welcome FAMU.  The Rattlers are 5-20 on the season including 0-9 away from home on the season as they try to come to Tampa for a mid-week game and will be looking for a big win on the road.  USF needs to notch a strong win here before getting back to Big East play over the weekend (game starts at 5PM).

Returning Pitchers Anchoring USF Rotation

The USF Bulls are off to a 17-8 (3-0) start on the year and it has been the strength of the rotation and the return of three pitchers that missed all of last year due to injury that are leading the way.  Ray Delphey, Andrew Barbosa, and Derrick Stultz are throwing well right now and fueling the Bulls as they look to return to the Big East tournament at the end of the year.

Big East Releases Football Schedules

After waiting for the Big East to finalize its conference schedule, the league released the 2012 schedules for each Big East team.  Here is the 2012 schedule for USF (per CBS Sports).

Power Surge Elevating USF Softball Offense

The Bulls are showing more power at the plate this season.
The USF Bulls are off to their best start in program history, notching a record of 29-5 (3-0) and are coming off of a dominating weekend, sweeping Big East foe Rutgers.  While the pitching has led the way and the defense has come up big for Eriksen and the ladies, it has been the surge in offensive power this season that has helped the Bulls become a complete team and could lead them deeper into the season.

Last Chance for B.J. Daniels this Season

In his last season as a Bull, all eyes are on Daniels to put it all together and lead the Bulls to that elusive Big East title.
Spring football is in the year and as the team begins its first practices of the new year, all eyes are now on senior quarterback B.J. Daniels.  Daniels, the most experienced and arguably talented quarterbacks in the conference returns to a team that is loaded with talent, probably the most weapons he has ever had.  Yet, with all the experience and weapons around him (just look at the receivers this team has) there is still debate among fans about what he can do this season.

Sara Nevins Dominating

The softball team is out to an impressive 29-5 (3-0) start to the season, sweeping Rutgers over the weekend to open the Big East portion of the schedule.  One of the main reasons the team is having such great success so far is the starting pitching.  While the offense continues to hit for power (more home runs than last season already), the pitching has been the strength of the team and going forward will be the key for them to make it to the NCAA tournament. The Bulls have three strong arms that can take the mound in any given night, but it is sophomore Sara Nevins that is stealing the show.

USF Baseball Completes Sweep of Georgetown

As the ladies were sweeping Rutgers, the baseball team was following their lead as they completed their sweep of Big East foe Georgetown in the opening series of conference play with a 7 to 2 win.  USF is now 17-8 (3-0) on the year as they continue their strong play at home.

Matt Reed worked 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, and struck out one batter.  The bullpen was dominate once again.  Steven Leasure worked 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and struck out 2.  Nick Gonzalez worked 1 inning and struck out two batters as they closed out the game.

USF Softball Completes Wweep of Rutgers

The USF Bulls completed their 3-game sweep with a 1 to 0 win over Rutgers as both sides battled each other in a pitchers dual.

Sara Nevins went 6.2 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 5 as she continues to dominate the circle.  Sam Greiner got the last out.  The offense had just 2 hits on the day as both sides struggled to get anything going until the 5th inning when the Bulls loaded the bases.  Kenshyra Jackson was hit by a pitch with the bases full and scored Jessica Mouse, that was the deciding factor in the game.

It was a solid win for the Bulls even with their offense struggling.  They are now 29-5 (3-0) on the season, they will now hit the road for a mid-week game against the Florida Gators at 6PM before they get back to Big East action against Pitt on the road this weekend.

Former Bull Jarrid Famous Continues Career in the Philippines

Although many former NCAA athletes take different routes to the pros, former USF forward Jarrid Famous has found his way to play in the Philippines. After playing his last season with the Bulls last year and leaving the NBA D-League after a quick stint, Famous appeared in three games for the Meralco Bolts of the PBA. Although Famous delivered great numbers he was dropped from the team after losing two of the three games.

Bits from the Third Day of USF Football Practice

The Bulls were in pads today as they practiced for the third time this spring, the first in full pads (first day for the 20 walk-on as well).  Holtz was pleased with the energy at the practice, continuing to state the leadership from the seniors and how well they were leading the younger players.

USF Baseball Beats Georgetown 6 to 1

The offense continued to shine and the pitching staff dominated as the USF Bulls won their second Big East game of the season, taking the second game of the series against the Hoyas 6 to 1, improving their record to 16-8 (2-0) on the year.

The offense came to life in this game.  Alex Mendez was huge, going 2 for 4 with a home run, driving in two runs, and he scored 2 runs.  James Ramsay went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.  Jimmy Falla went 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Todd Brazeal went 1 for 4 with a solo home run.  Joey Lovecchio worked 7.2 strong innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 run, walking 3 and struck out 2 batters.  Ray Delphey went 1.1 innings, allowing 1 walk and struck out 2 to end the game.

This was another huge win for the Bulls, notching another Big East win as they begin their conference run.  The Bulls will look for the series sweep tomorrow at 1PM.

USF Softball Rolls in their First Day of Big East Action

Kenshyra Jackson (above) and Stephanie Medina showed their power in the two games against Rutgers (Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
The USF Bulls took on Rutgers in the first series of the Big East schedule in a big double header as they got off to a strong start, taking both games and improved to 28-5 (2-0) and marked the best start in program history.

USF Softball Takes on Rutgers as they Open Big East Play

The USF Bulls, , begin the start of the Big East portion of the schedule. They will start conference play with Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights enter the series at 10-12 on the year (this is their first Big East games as well). The Bulls did not play RU last year because of weather that canceled both games, so the two sides will be looking to get started in this series.

The Bulls will play Rutgers today in a double header, first game at 2PM and the second at 4PM. They will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1PM.

USF Baseball Rolls Over Georgetown in First Big East Game

The USF Bulls came out firing in the first Big East game of the year as they beat Georgetown 6 to 0 as they improve to 15-8 (1-0) on the season after a strong start from Andrew Barbosa and the offense behind him.

Barbosa was in command for this game, working 6 innings, allowing just one hits, 2 walks, and struck out 13 batters as he continued to strike out batters and command the strike zone.  Adrian Puig worked 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, striking out 2.  Nick Gonzalez went 1 inning, allowing 1 hit, and struck out 2 as well, ending the game for a huge win for the team.  James Ramsay went 1 for 4 with a home run driving 2 runs that got the game started for USF.  Daniel Rockhold went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored.  Zac Gilcrease went 1 for 3 with an RBI as well.

This was a great win to start the Big East schedule for USF.  They need to take at least another game to win the series and get off to a real strong start in conference play.  If they can continue to get the strong starting pitching, they should be able to rack up wins and rise up in the Big East conference.

USF WBB Falls to James Madison

The season is over for the USF ladies as they fall 45 to 72 in the 3 round of the WNIT tournament.  The Bulls kept it close in the first half but could not find their shot in the game as JMU took the lead and never looked back.  The loss ends the season for the lady Bulls at 19-16, ending a strong season on the hardwood.

Tahira Johnson had 4 points and 3 rebounds.  Jasmine Wynne had 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals in her last game of her USF career (what a career it has been for her).  Kaneisha Saunders had 7 points and 5 rebounds.  Tiffany Conner had 2 points and 6 rebounds.  Inga Orekhova had 11 points in the game but was just 1 of 7 from 3-point range.  Andrell Smith had 5 points and Shalethia Stringfield had 4 points and 2 rebounds in the game.

What a season it was for the Bulls.  They made a postseason tournament, improved in Big East play, and proved to everyone they are a power program that is only going to get better in the years to come.

USF Baseball Takes on Georgetown to Start Big East Play

The USF Bulls, 14-8 on the season, begin the Big East portion of their schedule as the Georgetown Hoyas come to Tampa for a 3-game series over the weekend.

Georgetown is 11-10 on the year, playing their first Big East games of the season as well as both sides look to get off to a strong start in league play (game tonight is scheduled for 7PM).

USF WBB Faces James Madison in the Sweet 16 of the WNIT

Game on.
The USF Bulls, 19-15, are hitting the road for the Sweet 16 of the WNIT as they head to face James Madison (game starts at 7PM).

James Madison, 26-7 on the year, beat Wake Forest 84 to 76 in overtime and will be a major challenge for the ladies.  JMU averages 62 points per game, but only allow 55 points per game, showing how strong they are defense.  Let's see what USF is up against in this one.

Bits from the First Day of Practice

The Bulls took to the field for the first time yesterday in spring practice and there were a few notes to make.

Reserve defensive back Brandon Salinas will not return to the team this season (former walk-on). Alex Mut, the wide receiver who took a grey shirt last year after suffering an ACL tear) was on the field, wearing a knee brace, but moving well.

2012 Spring Preview: Quarterbacks

The Spring Preview continues as we take a look at the quarterback position. The Bulls have the benefit of having a senior starter at the helm in B.J. Daniels. Daniels had one of his best seasons last year, setting new marks in passing and cutting down on mistakes. However, there are still great concerns on the depth chart and who will be his back-up this year. Let's take a look at the depth behind Daniels and what to expect from the position this year.

USF Beats Hartford; North Texas Game Rained Out

The USF Bulls won their first game of the double header 7 to 1 over Hartford as they improve to 26-5 on the season (unreal start to the season for Eriksen and his team).

USF Softball Faces Hartford and North Texas

The USF Bulls, 25-5 on the year, host another double header before the start of conference play on Saturday.

The Bulls will face Hartford at 5PM and then will face North Texas at 7PM as they look to notch two more wins before the start of Big East play.

Players to Watch this Spring

Spring football is finally here! While the season is still months away (we don't even have the full schedule yet) the team will hit the field today for the first time. Holtz is optimistic about the group he has this year, but there are a few players we should all be watching this spring to see what they can do, what impressions they can make, and what impact they could possibly make this season. Here are the top five players on defense and offense that should be watched this spring.

2012 Spring Preview: Running Backs

The Spring will be a critical time for the USF coaching staff as they evaluate their running back position. With Darrell Scott leaving early to the NFL and recent JUCO signee Michael Pierre not on campus yet, the Bulls will be looking for someone to rise up and the depth chart behind Demetris Murray and take some of the rushing burden off of the senior's shoulders.

USF has several running backs that are untested and will need someone out of the group to raise their level of play starting with the spring practices and games.

USF Baseball Falls to UCF 2 to 6

The USF Bulls fell 2 to 6 to 19th ranked UCF, dropping their overall record to 14-8 on the year. USF had the lead early in the game, but the Knights got on the board against Derrick Stultz and the Bulls could not answer late.

Derrick Stultz went 6.2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 6. Steven Leasure went 1.1 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and struck out one batter. Kyle Parker got two outs, allowing a hit and struck out one batter. Ray Delphey got the last out via a strike out. Alex Mendez went 1 for 2 with a walk and scored a run. Chad Taylor went 2 for 4. Jimmy Falla went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Kyle Teaf went 1 for 3.

The Bulls will host Georgetown this weekend for a 3-game series, starting with the first game on Friday night at 7PM.

Notes from First Football Press Conference of the Spring

From USF Football and Greg Auman- The Spring football practices begin tomorrow and Coach Holtz and company are ready to go as he addressed the media and brought everyone up to speed on a couple of notes before the team hits the field.

He stated that the team will be in shorts and shirts for the first day and Wednesday, but will switch to full pads on Saturday. Holtz stated he is ready to get back to work after a disappointing season, stating the team has to learn to finish games. He feels the new players who enrolled early and the returning group of seniors, could make this a special team. He also stated that the team would need to improve on the pass defense and special teams, but also stated that he is encouraged by the progress of the offense.

Holtz stated that there will be two spring games, the first on campus on April 14th and the second at Raymond James Stadium on the 21st.

Back-up quarterback Ryan Eppes is moving to linebacker. David Simon, the freshman offensive lineman that suffered several seizures a few weeks ago, has returned home to Alabama to recover and will not return to the team. We wish the best. Ricardo Dixon, the reserve defensive back that tore his ACL last season, will not participate this spring. Safety Jon Lejiste, wide receiver Chris Dunkley, and offensive lineman Thor Jozwiak will be limited in spring practices as well do to lingering injuries.

2012 Spring Preview: Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

The 2012 Spring season will be a great chance to see one of the deepest and most skilled positions on the field, wide receiver and tight end. The Bulls have one of the deepest and most skilled groups of receivers in the conference and with a senior quarterback and solid offensive line, it could be a big season passing the ball for USF.

USF Baseball Takes on UCF

The Bulls, 14-7 on the year, remain at home as they host the 19th ranked UCF Knights in another key game before the start of Big East play.

Victor Rudd Declares for NBA Draft

From Greg Auman - News came out last night that sophomore forward Victor Rudd Jr., after just one season as a Bull, will declare for the NBA, but will not hire an agent.

USF Softball Wins Another on a Walk-off Home Run

The USF ladies are getting accustomed to this late inning walk-off home runs. The Bulls, in the 8th inning, got a blast from Kenshyra Jackson that gave USF the victory, improving their record to 25-5 on the year as they continue this impressive first half of the season before the start of conference play.

2012 Spring Preview: Offensive Line

With spring ball about to start on Wednesday (thanks to Greg Auman for correcting an earlier post on the start date for the camp). The USF offensive line, one of the strengths from last season, has a few holes to fill this year, including left guard and center (lost Jeremiah Warren, Chaz Hine, and Kevin McCaskill at those positions to graduation). USF brought in two JUCO linemen that could be in the mix, but there is a young, talented group of linemen that will battle for the positions.

USF Softball Takes on UMass

The USF Bulls, 24-5 on the year, and fresh off their upset win over FSU on a walk-off HR, take on UMass for a Monday night game here on campus (game slated to start at 6PM).

Final Thoughts on USF Men's Bakseball Season 2011-2012

USF men's basketball season is over, but what a season it was for the Bulls. The team went 22-14, making it to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament, the first tournament appearance in 20 years and the first two wins in the tournament in program history. While the Ohio loss was painful, the team had a season to remember and the future is even brighter.

USF Falls to Ohio in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament

The journey has come to an end. After a tremendous season, the USF Bulls fell last night to Ohio, 56 to 62, in the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament. USF, finishing the year at 22-14, had an early lead in the game, but the Bobcats made huge shots down the stretch and USF didn't have the answer, but while the loss hurts, we should be proud of this team and the program on the new heights they have accomplished.

Sunday, March 18, 2012

USF Falls 56 to 62 to Ohio

The season is over. The Bulls had the lead at a few points, but Ohio was able to hit their clutch shots down the stretch and the Bulls could not answer. The year is over, but this is one of the greatest seasons in USF history. We are so proud of this team. This will be a year to remember and build from. GO BULLS.

USF Baseball Drops Series Finale to Lafayette

The USF Bulls missed a chance to sweep the series against Lafayette as they fall 6 to 7 and to 14-7 on the season. The Bulls had a 3 run lead early in the game, but the Leopards had 14 hits as they took the lead. USF rallied, but came up just short in the 9th inning.

Matt Reed went 4.2 innings, allowing 9 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks, and struck out one batter. Adrian Puig went got one out, allowing a walk and a hit in between. Nick Gonzalez went 2 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and struck out 2. Austin Adams went 1 inning striking out 2 batters. Ray Delphey went 1 inning, walking 1 batter.

The offense came up just a little short, but battled and had 12 hits as a unit today. Alex Mendez went 1 for 3. Chad Taylor went 2 for 4. Jimmy Falla went 2 for 4, Kyle Teaf went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Luis Llerena went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Zac Gilcrease made his debut and made some noise, going 3 for 4 with a double and drove in two runs during the game.

The Bulls will face UCF on Tuesday night here on campus at 7PM. The Bulls lost the first matchup in Orlando, falling 1 to 12.

USF Softball Beats Florida State on Walk-off Home Run

The USF Bulls battled 21st ranked FSU and won on a walk-off home run by the bat of Stephanie Medina (last out in the 7th inning) as the Bulls improve to 24-5 on the year.

2012 Spring Preview: Secondary

The Bulls had a lot of injuries last year in the secondary and at the end of the season lost several key players such as safety Jerrell Young and cornerback Quenton Washington to graduation. However, the Bulls return several starters and key reserves for the 2012 season that will need them to raise their level of play this season. With that said, there are still a lot of concerns with this unit. Time to break down what the Bulls will have as they step on the field for Spring practices.

USF Faces Ohio in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament

This has been, might as well keep it going.
The USF Bulls, 22-13, continue their play into March as the NCAA tournament continues.  After beating Temple in the second round, the Bulls must now face Ohio out of the MAC conference as they try to continue this historic season.

USF Softball Takes on FSU

The USF Bulls, 23-5 on the year and fresh off of their double header sweep yesterday, are back home to take on the 21st ranked Seminoles of FSU.  The Noles are 23-3 on the year and will pose a real challenge for the ladies as they look to beat another ranked opponent early in the season.

Saturday, March 17, 2012

USF WBB Beats FIU, Advances to Third Round of WNIT

The USF season continues as the ladies beat FIU 77 to 61 to advance to the third round of the WNIT (will face the winner of the JMU vs. Wake Forest game, which is scheduled for tomorrow).  The Bulls were in for an early fight in this one, but built a 20-point lead in the second half and held on after a strong Panther charge at the end to get within 9 points.

USF Baseball Wins 9 to 3 Over Lafayette

The offense remained hot as the Bulls beat Lafayette 9 to 3, second win in as many days, improving to 14-6 on the year as they continue to get the offense going and great starting pitching.

USF Softball Sweeps Double Header

The Bulls were back in action today in another key double header in Clearwater as part of the USF Invitational tournament. The Bulls won the first game of the double header 5 to 1 over Northern Illinois on the power of the home run and the arm of Sara Nevins.

USF WBB Faces FIU in the Second Round of the WNIT

The USF Bulls, 18-15, are coming off of a 76 to 20 win over FAU in the first round of the WNIT. After the big win, the Bulls welcome FIU into town for the second round of the WNIT (game scheduled to start at 7PM in the upper gym of the Rec Center. Tickets are just $5).

The USF Basketball Drinking Game (Better Late Than Never)!

The Bulls' season has yet again been extended, and I think I've seen enough USF basketball to have noticed a few habits of this team. There are some things that are simply predictable: The turnovers, the heavy defense, the scoring droughts. So I decided to do something I should have done weeks ago: Make these games watchable with the USF drinking game.

USF Beats Lafayette in the First Game of the Series

While all eyes were on the basketball game, the baseball team was taking care of business. The Bulls won 5 to 0 last night over Lafayette as they improve to 13-6 on the year as they begin the 3-game series.

Andrew Barbosa had one of his best outings of the season, working 6 innings, allowing just 3 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 4 batters on the night. Steven Leasure went 3 innings in relief, allowing 2 hits and struck out 4 batters (great outing for him as well).

The offense was able to make some noise in this game as well as they put up 5 runs on the board. James Ramsay, who continues to rip the cover off the ball, went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Matt Hart went 2 for 4. Todd Brazeal went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Luis Llerena went 2 for 4 and Kyle Teaf went 1 for 4 with an RBI as well.

This was a strong win for USF as they continue to play well at home. They will face the Leopards again today at 6PM.

USF Softball Plays Another Double Header

The USF Bulls, 21-5, split a double header yesterday in the opening round of the USF Invitational. Today, they head to Clearwater for another double header at the Eddie C. Moore complex.

In the first game the Bulls will face Northern Illinois (game slated to start at 1:45PM) and will finish the day with a game against Kent State (slated for 4PM).

USF MBB Beats Temple Advances to Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament

They are still dancing.
It happened again. The USF Bulls, with defense, determination, and and a ton of fight, rallied from a poor first half where they were down 9 to 19 at one stage and had missed 22 straight shots and came back in the second half to beat Temple 58 to 44. The Bulls couldn't buy a shot in the first half, but Noriega made a big three to get the team within 4 heading into the locker room. The Bulls came out in the second half on an 11 to 2 run, taking the lead and never looking back.

USF Beats Temple

Yeah, we did that.
It is real life people. The Bulls, after an ugly first half, beat Temple 58 to 44, moving to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament. USF was down by 10 in the first half, but they stormed back, taking the lead, locking down on defense, and advancing again. This is just unreal, Ohio is next, just keep it going.

This Was No Upset!

USF Takes on Temple in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament

The Bulls, after beating Cal 65 to 54 in the first four in part of the tournament, head to Nashville as the 12 seed to face 5th seeded Temple.

Temple, 24-7 on the year, finished 13-3 this year in the Atlantic-10 conference.  The Owls averaged 76.2 points per game, shooting 47% from the floor as their strong backcourt led the charge.  The Owls also allowed 69 points per game, preferring an up-tempo style of play.  The Bulls on the other hand will look to slow the game down, make each possession count, and get after them on defense.  This will be an interesting game to watch (game tips off at 9:50PM in Nashville, a late start, but worth every second).

USF Baseball to Host Lafayette Over the Weekend

The USF Bulls, 12-6 on the year, face Lafayette College for a 3-game series starting tonight at 7PM (game on Saturday scheduled for 6PM and Sunday at 1PM).

The Bulls are coming off of a strong offensive performance, beat the Red Birds 10 to 5 and belting out 13 hits on the day.  The offense could be heating up at the right time, which is not good news for Lafayette who comes into the weekend after dropping their last game to North Dakota State.
